ABOUT 3RD ROCK GRID

"A social community of worldwide individuals interacting in a “virtual three dimensional online world”. The content, look, and feel of the world is created by the individuals interacting within the world.

Within the virtual world you will find houses, businesses, music clubs, role playing areas, parks, museums, whatever the community decides to build or develop, either collectively on community property or individually on your own property. You will also meet and talk to other individuals, Americans, Canadians, Australians, Europeans, and others from all corners of the globe." source

ARVEL's headquarters in 3rd Rock Grid (3RG) are at Tierra Paz 125, 80, 25. They consists of a 3-level building with pictures of educators and developmental psychologists on its interior walls. In-world visitors to 3RG who enter the building can read brief descriptions of the luminaries by mousing over their pictures on the walls. The building has two meeting areas—an informal sitting area upstairs that accommodates 15 and a round table on the lower level that accommodates 20. All seating is scripted to replace the Open Sim (OS) misaligned default sit position.

Other items of educational interest on 3RG are an Educator Center (Stowa Way, 205, 136, 32) created by ARVEL member Margaret Czart (Margaret Dashwood in 3RG) and 3RG's experiment in self-government that began in January 2010 with the formation of a community council to help define and improve the community on the grid. The council discusses its activities with the community at weekly meetings in the 3RG Community Center (Our Town 42, 193, 22) each Saturday at 12noon, Pacific Time.

For more information about the Community Council or the ARVEL headquarters, contact Ann Randall through the ARVEL Ning site (http://arvelsig.ning.com) or IM Xann Kanto in SL and 3RG (aka Aviana Pacem in 3RG). For more information about 3RG, contact lazuli.pooraka@3rdrockgrid.com. (re-post from Ann Randall's. original: http://arvelsig.ning.com/profiles/blogs/about-3rd-rock-grid)

The ARVEL SIG Building

Great educator resources can be found at the Educator Center (Stowa Way, 205, 136, 32) created by ARVEL member Margaret Czart (Margaret Dashwood in 3RG)

There is a correction as I no longer have my work in 3rd Rock Grid since December of 2010 and moved to Reaction Grid. As of December 2011 I am working on a Standalone with no external access until my project is complete. If anyone would like to discuss anything related to virtual worlds you may contact me here.

Best,

Margaret

What an exciting news! Will you post a new thread under the Reaction Grid Discussion (http://arvelsig.ning.com/group/arvelinopensim/forum/topics/reaction...) and tell us more about your work there?

There is no need for posting it on Reaction discussion unless you want to discuss it as archived work. As mention in my previous post am doing all my virtual world work on a standalone sims on my local computer which has no external access. Once my projects are complete and I find a descent host I will have them available to the public.

Here's an update on education-related activities on 3rd Rock Grid. It has built a 3RG University, with a hub at Aero (53, 32, 22). The centerpiece of the university is on Lynn, a sim dedicated to astronomy. It has theatrettes that show the satellites orbiting our solar system's gas giants, a planetarium with a good working model of the solar system, a radio telescope that dominates the skyline, and an optical telescope: Astro's brilliantly scripted lens that chases Messier objects, galaxies and planets around the night sky.

In a sim adjacent to Tierra Paz, where the 3RG ARVEL headquarters is located is a build of the revised Bloom's Taxonomy. It is built as a tower, full of illustrations of each level. If you get a chance to visit 3RG, be sure to visit Bloom's Taxonomy Tower at Tierra Tranquila (162, 214, 21).
